Hello! My name is Amy Uptain, and I am the librarian at Threadgill Primary School. I graduated from the University of North Alabama with a degree in secondary education in 1997 and have been working in the field of education or librarianship in some capacity ever since. I earned my master's degree in library information studies (M.L.I.S.) from the University of Alabama in 2002, but my love for libraries began as a little girl. My mother always took my sister and me to the public library when we were children, and I am blessed to have spent six years of my life working in public libraries after I graduated from high school! I am a proud member of the Alabama School Library Association and am happy to chat about libraries and their importance with anyone who will listen! I have spent hundreds (maybe even thousands!) of hours reading aloud to children, and not one second of that time has been wasted.
I have been married for over twenty-six years to my husband, Shannon, who retired from Sheffield City Schools. We have four children, ranging in age from young adult to pre-teen. My favorite things to do are read, spend time at the beach (while reading!), and travel. I especially love visiting places that have to do with the books I love, like the Boston Public Garden, the home of Mrs. Mallard and her ducklings from Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey, one of my favorite children's authors and illustrators. I am excited and thankful to be able to share my love for books and reading with the students and teachers at Threadgill!
